Former Chairman of Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya today (6) requested teachers to temporarily halt road protests due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country.
In a Facebook post, he said that he always support the cause of removing decades long salary anomalies of teachers and principals. Deshapriya said that he always believe that teachers and principals should be given higher salary levels.
However, since the pandemic situation is getting worse, it would be wise to listen to health experts and temporarily withdraw from road protests. I humbly request you to change your strategies considering the pandemic situation of the country, Deshapriya requested.
