The Central Environmental Authority’s (CEA) has uncovered that the oil slick floating on Diyawanna Oya last week was resulted by the growth of algae and bacteria due to the discharge of waste into a canal in the Buthgamuwa area connected to the Diyawanna Oya.
Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera had directed the CEA to conduct an investigation to find out reasons for the fuel layer floating on the Diyawanna Oya.
Accordingly, the CEA had taken water samples of with the oil floating in the Diyawanna Oya from the area near the Buthgamuwa Bridge in Rajagiriya.
