Sapugaskanda Power Plant will be able to recommence generating electricity by the 30 January 2022, Enegry Minister Udaya Gammanpila said.
The power plant had to stop its operations due to fuel shortage, resulting power cuts Island wide.
Gammanpila said that the government had decided to release USD for two oil tankers anchored at the Colombo Port.
With that, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) will be able to deliver Diesel to the WestCoast Power Plant instead of Furnace Oil, and deliver Furnace Oil to the Sapugaskanda Power Plant, he said assuring that there would not be future powrr cuts as a result.
